Music and Travel Tourism: Great for Texas

Texas music is great! The music industry in Texas is extraordinarily diverse in genres. Besides Texas Country music, Texas artists offer other popular genres like Rock and Roll, Jazz, Pop, Tejano, Techno, Polka, and many more. The unique music industry in Texas is highly successful and rich in history. It is one of the top tourism attractions and has a positive economic impact for the State.

There are over 7,000 Texas music businesses, nearly 700 Texas music events annually, over 800 Texas radio stations, and 7,200 Texas recording artists which can be found at Texas Talent Register. To manage all this, the Texas Legislature created the Texas Music Office, which opened in 1990. This entity was created to continuously promote and develop the Texas Music Industry.

Several establishments have been established due to the Texas music industry. There are hundreds of dance halls, festivals, Halls of Fame/museums, etc. As a result, it is possible to plan your own Texas music road trip. There are several resources available to tailor a Texas music road trip. For example, the Texas Highways magazine published The Sites & Sounds of Texas Music: A Road Trip. This document provides a brief overview of some of the most popular Texas-music related attractions, events, and even the radio stations to listen to during the drive. Furthermore, the Texas Travel magazine website has a Texas Music travel guide and planning tools.

The Coastal Bend has several Texas music attractions and events. For example, the Fiesta de la Flor Music, Texas Jazz Fest, Dia de los Muertos CC, Texas Sandfest, ArtFest Weekend, Whooping Crane Festival, the Greek Festival of Corpus Christi, and BucDays Concert Series attract thousands of musicians, bands, and their fans annually. The Selena Museum and Selena statue on the Corpus Christi Bayfront are attractions, as well as, the Port Aransas Art Center. There are also other well-known Texas music events, venues, and travel destinations in Corpus Christi and Port Aransas. You can find more information on Corpus Christi attractions and Port Aransas attractions.

The Texas music industry has grown at a rapid pace. In 1991, there were only 1,160 listings in the Texas Music Industry Directory. Today, there are over 18,000. As a result, there is plenty to do, listen to, and see throughout the State!
