Hunter Urges Patriotic Texans to Honor Flag on June 14th

Republican State Representative candidate Todd Hunter today called on all patriotic Americans in District 32 to fly their flags on Flag Day, June 14 th, to show their support of our country’s troops and to honor the day in 1777 that Congress voted to adopt the Stars and Stripes as the official emblem of the nation.

“The United States flag is a symbol for everything that is good about this country,” Hunter said. “The sight of Old Glory flying in the breeze has given hope to our people, encouragement to our troops and instilled a belief in freedom around the world.”

The idea for Flag Day first originated in 1885 as a way for school children to observe the 108 th anniversary of the day Congress voted to make the flag the official emblem of the United States. In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14 th as Flag Day but it took until 1949 for the National Flag Day Bill to become law. That law gave official recognition to June 14 th as a day to celebrate the flag.

“We should use this opportunity to honor this important emblem of our nation,” Hunter said, “and as a way to remember and honor our military men and women who put their lives on the line to defend America every day.”

Hunter, who served in the Texas House for eight years before leaving in 1997 to help raise his young family, is the Republican candidate for the District 32 legislative seat.
