Rep. Hunter Announces Organization of Education Workforce Task Force

CORPUS CHRISTI – Rep. Todd Hunter (R-Corpus Christi) today announced that Carol Scott and Mike Briones will be heading up the Education Workforce Task Force as Chairman and Vice Chairman.

“They will bring a great educational and workforce perspective to the area.  I know with their background and experience, we will make great strides in promoting education and workforce development in the South Texas region,” said Rep. Hunter.

With low unemployment rates in Corpus Christi and the prospect of thousands of primary jobs in construction, manufacturing, oil and gas and others sectors, Scott says that the work of the task force is critical to meeting the demands for workers in the next decade.

“Our goal is to make sure that our young graduates and adult workers have the education, training and skills to meet the workforce demands of business and industry,” Scott said, “and more importantly that the payroll from over $14 billion in projects that have been announced go to the citizens of the Coastal Bend.”

The task force is charged with identifying and removing obstacles to all facets of secondary and post-secondary education and training to insure that the maximum number of Coastal Bend residents are qualified and ready for these jobs in the next 10 years. Briones said, “This will be a great opportunity to take part of an initiative that will impact the future of our  community.”

Scott is vice president of the Corpus Christi ISD Board of Trustees and is co-owner and president of Kailo Communications Studio. Briones is serving an interim executive director of the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
