Todd Hunter Campaign Kickoff Attracts Statewide Attention
CORPUS CHRISTI -- Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams will be the keynote speakers at the Todd Hunter campaign kickoff on Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. on the USS Lexington.
Hunter, a Corpus Christi attorney and former four-term legislator, is the Republican nominee for the District 32 legislative seat. Hunter said he is honored that two state officials whose offices greatly influence life in the Coastal Bend will be speaking on his behalf.
“Jerry Patterson is an outstanding steward of the state’s beaches and lands in the General Land Office,” said Hunter. “His positive influence on our area is evidenced in his championing the Adopt-A-Beach, coastal management and the oil spill prevention and response programs.
“In addition, Jerry is a true American hero. He is a former Marine who volunteered to serve in Vietnam and retired from the Marine Corps Reserve as a lieutenant colonel. His advocacy for issues important to our veterans extends far beyond the loan programs, homes and cemeteries run by his agency. Veterans in District 32 join veterans across the state in their gratitude for Commissioner Patterson’s watching over their best interests.”
Hunter noted that one of the most important industries in District 32 is the oil and gas industry. Michael Williams, former chair of the Texas Railroad Commission, which oversees the industry, is fast becoming a national leader on energy issues.
“Michael is a rising star in Texas and national Republican politics,” Hunter said. “During his tenure on the Texas Railroad Commission his pro-growth energy proposals have attracted bipartisan support as he has worked to find innovative solutions for affordable, clean, reliable and safe energy. Commissioner Williams is a strong champion of increasing the focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics in Texas schools as a way of ensuring that our students are ready to lead us into the future.”
Hundreds of supporters have joined the campaign to send Todd Hunter back to the Texas Legislature. Although Hunter took a leave from public office in 1997 in order to spend more time with his young family, he promised to return to public service when they were older.
During his previous four terms as state representative, Hunter represented three of the current four counties in District 32 – Aransas, Nueces and Calhoun. San Patricio County was added as the fourth county in 2002.
Hunter is attracting wide bipartisan support as Republicans, Democrats and Independents join the campaign to elect Hunter as District 32’s state representative.
Two former Democratic legislators – Judy Hawley of Portland and Hugo Berlanga of Corpus Christi – co-chairs of his campaign, have both commented on how Todd will provide the Coastal Bend with the strong voice and leadership necessary to advance the interests of the Coastal Bend. And numerous other leaders across District 32 and the state are lining up to support Hunter to help lead District 32 and Texas into the future.
Hunter spokesman Steve Ray said the campaign would open its campaign headquarters at 14617 South Padre Island Drive soon and that a website www.electtoddhunter.com was already operational. Hunter’s campaign can be reached at 361-949-TODD (8633).
