AUSTIN, TX – Speaker of the House Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) on Thursday announced committee assignments for the 83rd Legislative Session of the Texas House of Representatives, reappointing State Representative Todd Hunter (R-Corpus Christi) to the powerful Calendars Committee.

“Chairman Hunter is an excellent Calendars Committee Chairman who has earned the trust and respect of his colleagues. Through his work on Calendars and other important committees, Chairman Hunter will play a significant leadership role in the House this session,” said Speaker Straus.

“I am honored to be appointed as Chairman of the House Calendars Committee by Speaker Straus. It is a great position to hold for the State of Texas as well as our South Texas region. I look forward to working hard this legislative session,” said Rep. Hunter.

Hunter will lead the committee designated to determine when and how legislation will be consider by the Texas House of Representatives.

Hunter was also named as a member of the County Affairs, General Investigating and Ethics, Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence and Redistricting Committees.
The House is divided into 38 standing committees and 3 select committees for the 83rd Legislature to accommodate for the high volume and complexity of the legislation at hand. Committee assignments are made by the Speaker of the House.
Rep. Hunter served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1989 to 1997 when he retired from public service. He served as chair of the Civil Practices Committee and as vice chair of the State Affairs Committee.
In 2008, Rep. Hunter was elected to represent District 32 which included Aransas, San Patricio, and Calhoun Counties, as well as part of Nueces County. During the 81st Legislative Session, Todd was named the Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence. During the 82nd Legislative Session, Todd was named the Chairman of the Committee on Calendars. In 2012, Hunter was elected as State Representative for District 32 which includes the eastern portion of Nueces County.
