SINTON (Kiii News) – A clock restoration project, that is one way community members in San Patricio County decided to honor those who have died in battle, and all those who have served and are serving; but it’s not just any old clock that was restored. The new restored clock is on top of the county courthouse in Sinton, and folks there say it’s been at least 55 years since the clock has been fully functional.

State Representative Todd Hunter, and San Patricio County Judge Terry Simpson were both on hand today at the county courthouse steps for the ceremony as the now restored clock was dedicated to all those who serve, but especially on this memorial day to those who died while serving. 18 year old Cody Nedbalek decided to restore the clock as part of a community service project. Nedbalek spent some 70 hours, and raised some $1300 to restore the clock, working with a clocksmith.

Nedbalek wanted to dedicate the restored clock to those who serve, telling 3 News, “They’ve sacrificed so much whether it be mentally, physically, emotionally; they don’t get the thanks that they deserve, and this was one way to give them a little bit of the thanks.”

Ron Morgan with the Patriot Guard Riders of South Texas was on hand and was moved by the dedication, saying the special project really touches his heart, and does a great job of honoring the veterans of San Patricio County. Morgan telling 3 News, “this day is extra special to me, because I lost my best friend in Vietnam in 1967. He may be gone, but he’s not forgotten.”

In conjunction with the other monuments at the site honoring veterans, county Judge Terry Simpson says the county courthouse continues to be an important place for the community to honor those who serve our country.

The courthouse was built in 1927. There were originally four clocks, but this is the only one that’s left.
