Coastal Bend Highlighting Texas Public Schools and Great Food
As Texans, we take pride in what belongs to us and this is also true for Texas public schools. From March 4th-March 8th, students across the State will celebrate our public schools for Texas Public Schools Week.
In 1950, William Jennings Burris, who had been active in the educational programs of the public schools of McAllen, wanted to help create attention to the importance of our students and public schools. He encouraged the public and our communities to focus on our Texas education system.
In the Coastal Bend we understand and appreciate the importance of our public schools and that’s why many schools participate in this celebratory week. Across the Coastal Bend students can participate in events the entire week.
Education is a major focus of this Texas Legislative session. We will be focusing on many education initiatives. Texas Public School Week helps emphasize this important subject.

In addition to recognizing Texas Public Schools, I also want to recognize two very spirited events – The South Texas Food Truck Festival and the annual “Taste of Aransas Pass” Rumble in the Jungle. Both events do a great job bringing our communities together, and the food is delicious.
The South Texas Food Truck Festival is an annual event. This year, it will take place on March 23rd from noon to midnight. Over 45 different food trucks will gather together at Whataburger Field to serve different delicious meals. A variety of restaurants from all over South Texas will be sending trucks to participate. Many of the food companies will be local, giving guests an opportunity to try some of the best food truck meals in our region. Aside from food, there will be fun kids’ games, arts and crafts, and live music to make it an all-around great family event.
A few days before, on March 21st, some great restaurants in Aransas Pass will be gathering together to provide guests with a food tasting opportunity that no one should pass. From 6-9 pm at the Aransas Pass Civic Center, local companies will be gathered together to offer samples to guests. It is an excellent opportunity to participate in the great South Texas culture.
These events are an excellent opportunity for our area to enjoy exquisite food and good company. I encourage you to enjoy these events.
