About 100 local leaders, students lobby legislators on Coastal Bend Day
CORPUS CHRISTI – State Rep. Todd Hunter, R-Corpus Christi, joined Reps. Connie Scott, R-Robstown, and Raul Torres, R-Corpus Christi, in letting the group know its concerns about unfunded mandates and budget cuts were not falling on deaf ears. Hunter stressed the importance of public participation in the dialogue between government and local leaders in the state budget process. The state is facing up to a $27 billion deficit in the next two years, causing a funding crunch that also will hit local governments and schools. “While the budget is being drafted, it is important for everyone to make their voices heard about what matters to them,” he said. “Once it is drafted and it goes to the floor, we no longer have a say other than to vote up or down.”
