DONATING BLOOD CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN A PERSONS LIFE

The Coastal Bend Blood Center (Blood Center) was formed in 1969 to centralize blood donation efforts in the South Texas Area. Since its formation, it has involved over 35,000 volunteers per year, which is crucial since over 120 people per day are needed to donate blood to meet the needs in South Texas. The Blood Center often places its mobile centers at different areas such as high schools, churches, and hospitals. These blood centers can be found every day of the week. Individuals who want to donate blood can visit the Blood Center at 209 North Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas during normal business hours. While many of the donation activities occur in Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, the Coastal Bend Blood Center actually serves ten counties in South Texas, which includes over half a million residents.

While opportunities for blood donation are available and welcome throughout the year, the Coastal Bend Blood Center’s single largest event of the year occurred last month. The annual “Run for Blood 5k Run/Walk” was a great success in fundraising for the cause in South Texas. The event began at 7 a.m. in the morning at the Corpus Christi Water Gardens, and over 300 registrants participated in the fundraiser. I was one of the participants this year. While the 5k run/walk is the main annual fundraising event for the Coastal Bend Blood Center, the organization hosts several other events throughout the year to try and help raise awareness about its important cause.

I want to continue to find ways of bringing awareness to the many great organizations in our Coastal Bend such as the Coastal Bend Blood Center. Statistically speaking, many of us will at some point need blood during our lives. We can truly benefit from these types of worthwhile organizations by doing our part to raise awareness and try and participate in these effective blood donations.

You can find more information about ways to help by donating blood as well as gain additional information by visiting their website Coastal Bend Blood Center.
