Energy Summit: Balance is paramount

Last week, the Todd Hunter Campaign co-hosted the 2012 Energy Summit with The Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute, in Corpus Christi at Del Mar College. Policymakers and industry experts discussed the balance between energy development and regulation, and their effects on the efforts to expand Texas’ power grid to meet expected demands.

“By bringing together experts and consumers, we are able to promote a greater understanding and an positive, pragmatic conversation about our energy needs,” said Representative Todd Hunter, R-Corpus Christi.

The Summit’s 200 attendees heard from a distinguished panel including:

  • U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas)
  • State Rep. Geanie Morrison (R-Victoria)
  • State Rep. J.M. Lozano (R-Kingsville)
  • Bryan Shaw, Chairman for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality
  • Tom Oney, Vice President of Regulatory Law at Energy Future Holdings
  • Bernard “Bud” Weinstein, Associate Director of the Maguire Institute at Southern Methodist University
  • Phil Wilson, Texas Department of Transportation

Policymakers, industry experts and Texans are working to meet the challenges laid out by Tom Oney when he said, “We want reliable power; it supports economic development and it keeps our plasma TVs working.”
