CORPUS CHRISTI — A rally Friday at City Hall against windstorm rate increases also will be a forum for announcing a new coalition aimed at developing solutions on windstorm issues.

State Rep. Todd Hunter, R-Corpus Christi, said the Coastal Windstorm Task Force will be made up of community and business leaders from the 14 coastal counties. More than 20 leaders from six counties have agreed to serve on the task force as of Thursday, according to a statement from Hunter’s campaign. The task force will take the offense on windstorm issues and work toward developing the framework for windstorm legislation in the coming session, Hunter said.

“We plan to come forward with our own proposal, as one voice,” he said. “We are going to create our own fate rather than let others miles and miles away determine it for us.”

Attorney Charlie Zahn, of Port Aransas, is the chairman.

“While we object to the rules, we are all cognizant that we have to come up with a solution,” Zahn said.

He said framework for legislation will come in the fall. The next legislative session starts in January.

He said the task force will meet for the first time Aug. 6 in Galveston in advance of a Texas Windstorm Insurance Association meeting scheduled for the next day. Corpus Christi Caller Times
