Hunter’s Education Workforce Task brings together state leaders for conference

Corpus Christi, Texas (Feb. 12, 2013) –Top business and education leaders from throughout the state will coordinate efforts to address education and workforce issues during the Education Workforce Conference, the first of several such events State Rep. Todd Hunter, R-Corpus Christi, has planned.

Speakers include: Commissioner Tom Pauken, Texas Workforce Commission; Hector Rivero, Texas Chemical Council and Association of Chemical Industry of Texas President/CEO; Dr. Rudy Peña with UTSA and the Eagle Ford Shale Consortium; Amy Beneski, Texas Association of School Administrators Associate Executive Director; Dr. Catherine Clark, Texas Association of School Boards Associate Executive Director; Dr. Anne Matula, Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend President; Bob Parker, Repcon, Inc. President; Carol Scott, CCISD Board President; Lenora Keas, Del Mar College Executive Director; Dr. Scott Elliff, CCISD Superintendent; Dr. Flavius Killebrew, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi President; Dr. Steven Tallant, Texas A&M University-Kingsville President; and Dr. Audra Ude, Flour Bluff ISD Assistant Superintendent.

The conference – scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 – will pursue the same goal set out by the Education Workforce Task Force, formed by Hunter following a public education/higher education summit held this past fall. The conference will be held at the Education Service Center Region 2 in Corpus Christi.

“Workforce training and education is not a local issue, they are a statewide necessity,” Hunter said. “The Eagle Ford Shale is a great example of that need. Our locally trained workforce is being hired throughout the state to work the play while individuals trained in other parts of the state are being hired to work in our backyard. I’m excited to have this group of people and organizations come together to bring benefit to the entire state of Texas.”

Joining Hunter’s Education Workforce Task Force in hosting the conference are the: Education Service Center Region 2, Texas Association of Manufacturers, Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of School Boards, Texas Chemical Council, Texas School Alliance, Texas System of Education Service Centers, Flint Hills Resources, H.E.B. and Koch Industries.
