Local legislative delegation files 190 wide-ranging bills
CORPUS CHRISTI — Coastal Bend legislators have authored 190 bills dealing with issues such as windstorm insurance, court redistricting, economic development and even a study of the way the state taxes boats. The local House delegation’s senior member, Todd Hunter, chairman of the influential Calendars Committee, authored 46 bills ranging from such issues as medical treatment for tick-borne diseases to a constitutional amendment that would require an annual budgeting process and laws related to open government. “It makes sense to do the budget every year, not every two years, although I know a lot of lawmakers don’t want it,” he said. “They don’t want to come back to Austin between sessions.”
