Local teachers school lawmakers on their concerns over state funding cuts

CORPUS CHRISTI — Area educators, some from as far away from Beeville, spent two hours on Saturday imploring Coastal Bend lawmakers, regardless of party affiliation, to listen to what proposed state funding cuts would do to children. The event, hosted by C-Cause United Teachers and School Employees, was an opportunity for teachers and school superintendents to tell lawmakers how concerned they are over a proposed state budget that would leave public schools with a $9 billion shortfall in the coming two years. The forum at Moody High School was attended by state Reps. Todd Hunter, R- Corpus Christi, Connie Scott, R-Robstown, and Raul Torres, R-Corpus Christi, and State Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, who were, at times, admonished by teachers.
