Spring Break in the Coastal Bend

Spring Break in the Coastal Bend

Spring Break in the Coastal Bend 150 150 Elect Todd Hunter

As Spring Break begins, I would like to show the importance of the Texas Coast. Texas has over 360 miles of coastline that line the Gulf of Mexico, also known as the Gulf Coast. The coastline and beaches of Texas are important for our ecosystem, communities, and economy. These areas are home to marine life, wildlife, and their natural habitats. Texas beaches are also popular tourist destinations. During the break, it is essential to care for the coastline by not leaving trash, and to recycle properly.

In the Coastal Bend, Corpus Christi, Rockport, and Port Aransas have several beach locations to visit. These include the Padre Island National Seashore, Mustang Island State Park, J.P. Luby Surf Park/North Packery Beach, Whitecap Beach, Padre Balli Park/Bob Hall Pier, I.B. McGee Beach Park/Horace Caldwell Pier, North Beach, South Packery Channel Beach, San Jose Island, and Rockport Beach. Each of these locations offers outstanding views and recreational activities. Some of these include fishing, hiking trails, RV access/camping, swimming, windsurfing/kiteboarding, kayaking/canoeing, and birding/wildlife viewing sights. For more information visit: Corpus Christi & Padre Island Beaches, North Padre Island Beaches, Port Aransas Beach, and Rockport Beach.

I also want to recognize a very spirited event – The Texas Jazz Festival. The Texas Jazz Festival is an annual event which will take place this year on March 18th and 19th at Heritage Park in Corpus Christi, Texas. This year will be the 60th year that the Texas Jazz Festival takes place. Additionally, The Texas Jazz Festival is the longest largest free running festival in the world. There will be three stages with live jazz music along with wonderful food and market vendors. The Texas Jazz Festival continues to honor the legacy as the Official Jazz Festival of Texas by attracting large crowds of people by regularly bringing incredibly talented musicians. This event does a great job bringing our communities together where all can listen to fantastic live jazz music. To learn more about the Texas Jazz Festival please visit Texas Jazz Festival.

To find more events around the Coastal Bend I encourage you to visit: Coast Like A Texan, Port Aransas The Island Life, and Rockport Fulton. There are excellent opportunities to participate in the great South Texas culture.
