Coastal Bend Hurricane Relief Efforts

The varying disaster relief efforts taking place have had a huge impact on our coastal community. These combined acts of kindness have enabled the Coastal Bend to have a strong start on the road to rebuilding our community. Continuing to work together is the key to a complete comeback.

There are several organizations and groups contributing to the clean-up and restoration in our area. Deciding who to contribute your time and money to can be overwhelming. Consider the following helpful tips as you make your decisions:
• Donate through a trusted organization.
• When donating goods, contact the organization you would like to donate to, to see what is needed/what they are accepting.
• Contact an organization you are interested in volunteering.
• Prior to volunteering ask if they have the necessary equipment and training available—to ensure an effective response.
• While volunteering—wear the proper attire (i.e. close toed shoes); bring sunscreen, bug spray, and water; and travel together/carpool, if possible.

You can find other helpful tips like these by visiting FEMA- Volunteer & /Donate /Responsibly.

There are several local organizations coordinating volunteer efforts and accepting donations.
Organizations accepting volunteers and donations include:
Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group or 361-596-3741
• “Hurricane Harvey Volunteer/Donation Task Force” (“like” this Facebook page for up-to-date information—needs and volunteer opportunities) in Aransas Pass
Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi or 361-884-0651
• Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi (361-882-6191)

Organizations accepting donations only include:
Rock City Church
• Church Unlimited (361-219-5065)
United Way of the Coastal Bend or (361-882-2529 or text UWHARVEY to 41444)

Rebuilding the Coastal Bend will not be a quick or easy task. We must continue to contribute to the areas that were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Remember, “Trabajando juntos hacemos las cosas”—“Working together we can get things done”.
